A favorite of chain saw collectors, the 7-10 model was manufactured by California-based McCulloch Motors in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The basic 7-10 model was superseded by the 7-10A at the end of the production run, and the model was discontinued in 1971. By today's standards, the 7-10 is a beefy saw, capable of doing big jobs with plenty of power to spare. It does, however, show its age, as it lacks most of the features that make modern saws easier to use.
Engine
The 7-10 is powered by a 70.5-cc two-cycle engine with a single cylinder. The aluminum cylinder features a 2-inch bore and 1.375-inch piston stroke. During the course of production, the 7-10 was equipped with one of three different carburetors: a Zama, Tillotson HS-165A, or Walbro SDC58. The engine is air-cooled and, like all two-cycle engines, requires an oil-and-gas mixture rather than pure gasoline fuel. It is equipped with a centrifugal clutch and an automatic rewind recoil starter.
Guide Bar and Chain
The standard guide bar length for the 7-10 is 16 inches, but the saw is able to accept and drive guide bars up to 28 inches. It came equipped with a McCulloch-branded chain with a 3/8-inch pitch.
Features
The 'A' in the 7-10A model designation stands for automatic, meaning that the 7-10A is equipped with an automatic oil pump with a manual override. It also has a manual chain brake. Ver mac pcms 1210 manual software. Aside from that, the 7-10 is a basic workhorse, with a standard recoil starting system. It lacks the technologies that reduce engine emissions and make contemporary saws more fuel efficient, and it doesn't offer luxurious add-ons, such as reduced-effort starting systems or tool-free chain adjustment mechanisms.
Comparison With Current Models
Compared to most current McCulloch models, the 7-10 is a monster. The manufacturer did not officially rate the power output of the saw's engine, but it has no problem powering a massive 28-inch guide bar. In contrast, McCulloch's current top-of-the-line CS 450 Elite saw is equipped with a 45.7-cc engine that is able to handle bars between 13 and 18 inches. The 7-10 tips the scales like a monster, though; its powerhead alone, minus bar and chain, weighs 15.6 pounds, while the CS 450 Elite weighs only 11.7 pounds.
