IP conflicts occur when two computers on a network have the same IP address. This can lead to problems when you are attempting to send data to one of those computers, and it may lead to one or both becoming disconnected from the network. Knowing how to troubleshoot IP conflicts through your SonicWALL device's menu can help you to keep your network clients connected and ensure that they only receive the data that they are supposed to receive.
- Configure your printer’s access to SonicWALL. DHCP
Dynamic Host Control Protocol is a method of distributing IP addresses across a local network. It can be handled through a server, a router or a security device such as a SonicWALL firewall. In general, IP conflicts occur when a DHCP-providing device tries to assign a device with an IP address that has already been used. This is often because that address has already been assigned to a device manually or because there are two devices on the network assigning IP addresses at the same time.
Basic Troubleshooting
If your computer gives you an IP conflict error, you should first ensure that there is only one device on your network running DHCP. DHCP services can be turned off in most router menus, allowing you to use your SonicWALL device as your network's sole source of IP addresses. Next, request a new IP for your computer by opening up the Windows command prompt and typing “ipconfig /release” followed by “ipconfig /renew.” Your computer should now be assigned a unique IP address.
Static IP
If your IP conflict problems continue, you could look to assign each device on your network a permanently assigned IP address known as a static IP. Static IPs can be assigned by clicking “Add Static Entry” from the DHCP Server section of the SonicWALL menu. You will need to know the Media Access Control address of the device you want to assign the IP to. Giving each device a static IP ensures that every network device has a unique address, but it can be impractical for large networks.

I cannot change the subnet in this scenario. When I try to add another range to the DHCP server ( i.e 10.5.4.x ) it will not allow it ( illegal range? )....

As posted in the comments, SonicWall does routinely limit the number of devices their products will manage. Sometimes they offer 'licensing upgrades' as options and sometimes it is a hard limit based upon the particular model.

user48838user48838The Netmask 255.255.0.0 only defines the first two octets to be your networks fixed address part. So every 10.5.. combination should be fine from the netmask standpoint.
Without knowing what DHCP server you're using and exactly how you've configured it, I can't speak to the errors you're getting or what could be causing them, but I can say that there is nothing inherent in the protocol or what you're trying to do that should be a showstopper -- you should be able to assign anything within 10.5.0.0/16 as a DHCP range (assuming nothing not in evidence that would preclude that from happening). I could speculate at length as to what your DHCP server is doing wrong, but it wouldn't be productive.

Why do you have such a large network range, on what appears to be a single subnet?
The more hosts you have on a network the slower it goes even with switches (there is a magic number, but it depends on the type of traffic & amount of traffic).
I would look at segmenting the network into smaller groups such as 10.5.x.0/24 (thus making several private class C's out of your class A). Then put a DHCP server on each subnet, this can be done with a single linux server that can also route the traffic (with-in your org) & hand it off to the sonicwall for internet routing.
